Sky Map 1.16.1 “Caelus” Delivers a Visual Overhaul and Label Stability Fix

Sky Map, the open-source planetarium application, has released version 1.16.1 under the codename “Caelus.” The update introduces a refreshed visual design and resolves a long-standing display issue affecting label rendering near the celestial poles.

Updated Visual Design

The most prominent change in this release is a redesigned color palette. The horizon now appears greener and features a soft fade, replacing the previous gradient. The ecliptic line is brighter and now includes degree marks, providing clearer positional reference for users tracking planetary paths across the sky. The overall color scheme has been refreshed throughout the interface.

Label Flickering Fix

The update addresses a rendering bug that caused labels near the zenith and nadir to flicker. Users who previously observed star names and constellation labels jittering or disappearing when pointing the device straight up will find those labels now display stably.

Platform Compatibility Update

The release notes include the addition of `DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION`, an Android-level permission change that aligns the app with current platform security requirements. This change does not introduce a user-facing feature but ensures compatibility with newer Android versions.

Version 1.16.1 is listed on F-Droid as the latest release. The Google Play listing for Sky Map does not display a detailed changelog for this version at the time of publication. As with previous releases, availability may vary by distribution channel.
